Five youth arrested in Sikar by Rajasthan ATS

Five youth including a engineering student arrested in Sikar by Rajasthan ATS in connection with the ongoing investigation into the Indian Mujahideen's (IM) Rajasthan module. The ATS officials said that these youths, some of them students, were tasked with placing bombs at various places. These youths were recruited in the IM through Maroof alias Ibrahim who was arrested by Delhi police's special cell and Rajasthan ATS on Sunday from his house in Jhotwara's Sanjay Nagar-D locality.
Rajasthan ATS picked five persons from Sikar for interrogation in connection with their alleged links with suspected IM terrorist who were held in Jaipur recently. "The ATS picked them up on Wednesday night and took them to Jaipur," SP Sikar told PTI. Official sources said they were in touch with suspected terrorists in Jaipur and Jodhpur.

Suspend Rajasthan Royals and CSK from IPL 7 - Supreme Court

Supreme Court has suggested that Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) be barred from the Indian Premier League Season 7. It also proposed that Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar should take over from N Srinivasan and be made interim president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India till it announces its final verdict in the matter. It further said any person associated with Indian Cements, the owners of Chennai Super Kings franchise, should not be involved with the BCCI. It has given the BCCI a 24-hour deadline to respond to the proposals. The Supreme Court said it will pass the interim order on the IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal on Friday at 1030 IST.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday urged Srinivasan to stand down while an investigation is conducted into illegal betting, saying his refusal to quit so far was 'nauseating'. A two-judge panel warned it could order the BCCI chief, regarded as the most powerful man in world cricket, to stand down unless he did so voluntarily as his continued presence in his post was hampering the investigation which involves his son-in-law. The bench was looking at a damning report that it commissioned last year into wrongdoing in the IPL following a betting and spot-fixing scandal that rocked the domestic Twenty20 tournament. The report, released in February, concluded that Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan could be guilty of illegal betting on IPL games, in a major blow to Srinivasan who is due to take over as head of the International Cricket Council in July. Meiyappan was the team principal of Chennai Super Kings, an IPL franchise owned by Srinivasan's India Cements company and captained by national skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Jaswant Singh files nomination from Barmer

Senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh has filed his nomination papers from Barmer as an independent candidate on Monday. Jaswant Singh said that he will contest the elections on the basis of his principles. Earlier, he has also made it clear that the party will have to suffer the consequences of internal strife coming to the fore ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Jaswant Singh says strife will hurt BJP in polls. Targeting Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and BJP chief Rajnath Singh, Jaswant claimed he had helped the two rise in prominence but they had now turned against him. “There is nothing like a favour in politics,” Jaswant said. “Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L K Advani and I were travelling together. Advani had asked me who would be a suitable candidate for the chief minister’s position in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. For UP, I had suggested Uma Bharti and for Rajasthan I recommended Vasundhara Raje.
“Raje would spend endless evenings at my place strategising and making plans for the future. Even for Rajnath Singh, I had backed him for the party president’s post. Today these people have back-stabbed me,” Singh told a massive rally in Barmer. He recounted how Vajpayee had invited him to become the first general secretary of the party and of the formative years of the BJP and its ideology. He called the decision to ignore his request to be given a ticket from his home turf despite strong backing from the local cadre as “dictatorial”.

Congress announces 3rd list of 58 candidates for Lok Sabha elections

Congress announces 3rd list of 58 candidates for Lok Sabha elections 2014 today including many names from Rajasthan. It has retained most of its incumbent MPs from Delhi and shifted former cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin to a new seat. In the list announced following the central election committee meeting, the Congress announced that Ajay Maken, Sandeep Dikshit and Krishna Tirath were to remain its candidates from the constituencies that they presently represent.
Union Minister Kapil Sibal will also contest from Chandni Chowk and will face off against Harsh Vardhan of the BJP and AAP's Ashutosh. A notable inclusion in the list of candidates was Ajit Jogi, who had announced his 'retirement' from politics after the loss to the BJP in the Chhattisgarh assembly elections. Jogi, a one-time Chief Minister of the state, will contest for the Mahasamund seat in Chhattisgarh. "I have decided to remain away from electoral politics for a year. I wanted to read, write, do contemplation and perform religious discourse and prayers," Jogi had said after the assembly elections. Seen participating in Holi festivities yesterday at the Congress office in Delhi, Jogi seems to have made amends with the party high command.

Rajnath Singh may contest from Chittorgarh seat

BJP chief Rajnath Singh may contest from the Chittorgarh Seat of southern Rajasthan in the coming Lok Sabha elections 2014, shifting out of Ghaziabad and Lucknow as per media sources. The announcement is expected in coming days after feedback from Local leaders of Rajathan and Chittorgarh.  His move may also be interpreted as reflecting his uncertainty about his prospects in Ghaziabad where fledgling AAP has acquired strong pockets of influence. After huge controversy over lucknow seat now Rajnath singh might move out of Uttar Pradesh.
Rajnath singh could be nurturing the desire to prove himself from any safe seat in UP or Rajasthan. He had lost the Mahona Assembly seat in 1993, when the BSP and the SP had forged a pre-poll alliance. The BJP president presently represents Ghaziabad seat which is no more safe after popularity of Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in National Capital Region (NCR).

Shane Watson is New Rajasthan Royals captain in IPL 2014

Shane Watson has been named captain of Rajasthan for the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014. The Australian all-rounder will take over the reins from Rahul Dravid, who retired from T20 cricket after leading the perennial underdogs to the play-offs last year. Watson, a former Australian vice-captain has been in the news for the wrong reasons over the past year, starting with his suspension by former coach Mickey Arthur in India during a Test series in the course of what came to be known as 'homework gate'. Watson, considered to be one of the best all-rounders in the world, has played a crucial role for the inaugural champions for six years, having scored 1887 runs at an average of 38.51 and a strike rate of 143.82 besides snaring 54 wickets from 61 matches. Watson's performance helped Rajasthan win the inaugural IPL in 2008, while playing under the inspiring leadership of Shane Warne. The young Australian displayed his all-round skills and match-winning performances in crucial ties, and eventually was adjudged the Player-of-the-Tournament. Dravid, the former captain of Rajasthan, said, "I would like to congratulate Shane Watson on his appointment as the captain of the Royals. He is not only one of the world's best allrounders, but a leader par excellence. Watson has been with the team since the first season and is familiar with the players and the staff. The Royals squad is a bunch of extremely energetic and talented players who know their roles perfectly well and I am sure they will thrive under Watson's inspiring leadership."
Watson is the second Australian after Shane Warne to lead the side, currently embroiled in a controversy around co-owner Raj Kundra, who has been accused of betting on his own team. "I am honoured to lead Rajasthan, an extraordinary team which has always given me amazing opportunities".

Congress Manifesto for Lok Sabha Election 2014

Congress party on Wednesday released its manifesto for the upcoming 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Party president Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi released the manifesto at the party office in New Delhi. Releasing the party's manifesto 'Your Voice, Our Pledge' in New Delhi, they debunked the opinion polls, which predict a dismal show by the UPA, and said everybody will be "surprised" by the results. On the upbeat campaign mounted by NDA under Modi, Rahul said, "just like the 'India Shining' balloon exploded... I can say certainly the balloon will explode." "India shining was an excellent campaign. They thought they will get 350 seats. But it evaporated when the results came. I am confident that like the balloon of India Shining, this time also the balloon will explode," he said.
With Congress fighting the elections with its back to the wall on a variety of issues including corruption and price rise. He, however, said mechanisms have been put in place to deal with it. The 49-page manifesto was prepared over five months using a different approach of consulting people which Rahul did. It promised an ambitious six-point charter of pro-poor measures, including the right to affordable healthcare, housing and pension, and to uplift 80 crore of the population to the middle class.
