Jat agitation leads to Closure of Hisar power plant

Power generation at the recently-commissioned 1,200 MW Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Plant at Khedar in Hisar district of Haryana has been stopped owing to shortage of coal caused by an agitation of the Jat community. Haryana's power minister Mahender Pratap Singh said Thursday that the power generation has been stopped due to lack of coal for the thermal plant. Railway wagons carrying coal for the thermal plant have not been able to reach it as the Jat community agitators, who are pressing for reservation under the OBC quota, have blocked railway traffic at various places in Haryana, especially in Hisar district.
